You don't have to know how to fly fish, just have the
enthusiasm. We are a group who get together and talk
about fly fishing and plan trips. Experience is not
necessary. It's the enjoyment of the outdoors,
conservation and fishing. Our meetings last
approximately an hour and a half.
The Potomac Valley Fly Fishers meets the 2nd Tuesday of
every month from 7pm to 9pm. Our next meeting will be
at Maryland School For The Deaf, Frederick, Md.

Current Events and Issues
Didymo in Big Hunting Creek
The club received notice that Didymo has been found in Big Hunting Creek. Didymo is an invasive
species of algae that can ruin a fishery. It was found in Gunpowder Rive (north of Baltimore)
and the Savage River (western Maryland) some years ago but apparently is now in our area.
Please spread the word to all the fishers you know. Please take the time to use wader wash stations
when available, wherever you are fishing. Please take a few minutes to maintain the wader wash
stations when you are on a stream. There are instructions at each station. If you are fishing
Big Hunting Creek, please inform any anglers you see of the situation and ask them to use the
wader wash stations. We want to do everything we can to reduce the spread of this invasive species.
Thank you
Lou Stohlman

On October 1st PVFF hosted Project Healing Waters for a day of fly fishing on the private
waters of Otter Fish Camp located in the Catoctin mountains just outside of Thurmont, Maryland.
This non- profit organization assists in the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled
military personnel through providing them with the opportunity to learn and experience fly
fishing.

Getting started, Loan a rod Program
The club has several 5-weight 7 1/2 foot fly rod and reel combs and 1 8-weight
9-foot fly rod combo available to check out and use. This program, started last year,
was designed to give the young members of the club a chance to use a rod that is a bit
shorter and youth friendly. We have 5 combos and anyone interested in checking one out
please see Jon Thames The rods are available now for the upcoming season on a first
come basis. The 8 weight is ideal for any member wishing to try a larger rod on the
Bay or any of the larger waters in the area. This rod is normally checked out for 2 months.
weeks at a time to allow more members a chance to use it.
